Want to get away from the tourist crowds, the shopping streets and
touts of Patong? This page will feature some unusual and special
resorts and hotels to stay at while you are in the Phuket area.
JW Marriott
Set on Phuket's Mai Khao Beach - over 16 kilometers long
(ten miles of uninterrupted beach!) - the longest stretch of sand on the island - the JW
Marriott is in a class all it's own. Isolated a bit from the rest of
the island it is a true "destination resort" in the sense that you don't
need to go anywhere else. You could easily spend a week without
leaving the grounds of the complex.
Also at the Marriot - Siam Deli - is listed on Special Treats
as one of the best bakeries on the island. You can go direct to the JW
Marriott
photos and information page from here.
When they first built this place -
and even after - I thought it would have to be a low-cost hotel/resort due
to its location. But, once I actually went there - and saw why they
built it where they did - now I understand! The views from the
hilltop are simply stunning. You can see well out into the bay and
several of the neighboring islands. This quiet setting is soothing
in every manner. The design and decor make it almost a boutique
resort. Photos and more information can be found at The Mangosteen.
Sitting right on the beach just off the island - north of
Phuket - the Hot Spring Resort is closer to the airport than Patong or
Phuket Town. The country drive to the resort is spectacular all on
its own. The resort has its own beach area - and a wide
variety of hotel and villa style accommodation. Almost exclusive use
of very long stretches of beach are on offer here. Small
villa/bungalows shout "Stay here!" - with a real charm all their own.
The Hot Spring Resort could almost be considered a destination resort -
but really it is not so far from other attractions. Golfers will
find the Thai Muang, Mission Hills, and Blue Canyon golf courses - closer
than if they had stayed in Patong or Kata Beach. This is not the
place for you if you want to be near the nightlife of Patong - but if you
are looking for a quiet retreat - this is the place. More photos and
information are at The Hot Spring Beach Resort and Spa.
Resorts and hotels in out of the way locations can add a
special dimension to your vacation. Search for them - drive around a
bit and look for them when you visit the island. It is worth looking
for them - and finding them.
