Phuket offers such a wide variety of beaches that this gets to be a highly subjective review of favorite places for a walk, a jog, or even a sunrise stroll.
Bang Tao Beach on Phuket is a real favorite. If you get up a little before sunrise you’ll find the beach is usually yours alone! Sometimes you’ll have a little company, a Thai fisherman or two, maybe a jogger from the resorts here and there up and down the bay, but if you want early-in-the-morning peace and quiet – check it out.
Most mornings the elephant trainers from Laguna Phuket will take their baby elephants out for a walk on the beach – Bang Tao Beach. It is a chance for the elephant to get socialized and comfortable around people. Petting one of these little critters will make you day! And they really are naturally friendly.
Of special interest along Bang Tao Beach is that, at times – during sunrise or sunset, you scan hear a Scopes Collared Owl hooting in the woods near Amora Resort, just south of the Laguna Resorts. It will sound almost like the singular bark of a dog – spaced every 12-15 seconds or so and sometimes a mate will respond within a few seconds. Similar owls have been heard around Kamala. You won’t often see these owls, they are bit smallish, but their hoot is good for a long distance.
Check also for the pair of Brahminy Kites that soar up and down the coastline here. You can see them most anytime of day – but your are most likely to see them around sunrise and sunset. If you like these kinds of sights – check out the Phuket bird watching page on this site.

So… you have a great beach, fantastic food, a chance to pet an elephant and spectacular kites flying overhead. What more can you ask?
