Beaches on Phuket:
Mai Khao Beach and More
If you'd like to
have a Phuket beach to yourself (who wouldn't!) - but aren't an
early riser. Or, if you just like to explore a bit, Phuket has a
variety of wonderful beaches that even the locals don't hit
regularly.
Mai Khao Beach
(above and left) may be the best. Over ten miles of uninterrupted
sand! 16+ kilometers for those who don't know miles.
Many Thais enjoy
Mai Khao Beach as a good picnic spot - you'll see why. Way up the
very north-most tip of the island - almost right before the bridges
to the mainland there are a series of restaurants sitting right on
the beach. Many with good Thai cooks waiting to cook something
simple for you - or it is just a chance to sit, enjoy the view, and
have a cold beer.
A favorite restaurant of many - in that area
- is
Andaman Seafood Restaurant. Great Penang Gai and Yam
Won Son.
This beach is home to the
JW Marriott
- they know the best beach!
This area is
rapidly developing with a large convention center and many new
resorts planned for the area. Just across the bridge on the
mainland, a new gold course is planned and the area around Natai
Beach is becoming the local version of Malibu.
For
more on the northern part of Phuket and the area just across the
bridge, check out
Phuket North.
Get away from the
tourist zones and experience this part of Phuket - that few visitors
ever really see.
