Book a flight over Phang Nga Bay with Destination Air

Top 10 things to see and do while visiting Phuket:

Phuket's ten most interesting and exciting activities and sights

Bay and Water Activities top the list

#1: Book a flight over Phang Nga Bay with Destination Air [photo top left]
Okay, it's not cheap, but getting to Phuket and your accommodation wasn't cheap either and here is a chance to get dramatic views of the bay and the thrill of a life time in a real seaplane.  Check their website just to fantasize a bit anyway: Destination Air.  Cruise their photo gallery and you'll be booking a flight today . . .

Sailing with Captain Mark#2: Cruise Phang Nga Bay with Captain Mark
Here's a chance to experience Phang Nga Bay for a lot less money and at a lot slower pace. And something you may enjoy even more than flying over it all: here's a chance to get in the bay "up close and personal".  With no more than ten passengers on board the captain lets you set the agenda and you'll have a chance to snorkel a bit, kayak a hong, lunch on a beach and generally just kick back and enjoy - that's what a vacation is supposed to be all about. Captain Mark has consistently excellent reviews on Trip Advisor and other major travel forums.  More about his sailing adventures on our Phuket Sailing page.

Liveaboard to the Similan Islands & Richelieu Rock#3: Scuba and Snorkel the Andaman Sea with the author of Jamie's Blog, or with Phuket Richard and Megumi
Phuket's notable scuba and snorkeling people can add an underwater view of the area for your pleasure and enjoyment: Check out our Scuba Day Trips page and our Scuba Liveaboards page.  Or . . . go straight to the websites for Sunrise Divers (Jamie) or Phuket Pro Dive (Richard and Megumi).

Bat Cave Back Hong#4: "Hongs by Starlight" with John Gray's Seacanoe
Well-reviewed and constantly raved about, this dramatic guided kayak-based tour of the hongs of Phang Nga Bay is well worth your time!  Naturalist John Gray is a Phuket pioneer in this type of eco-tourism.  Ignore the slightly cheaper imitators and go with the original and best. John Gray's water adventures do it right.

#5: Explore Phi Phi Island, Krabi and the Bay
Book the ferry over to Phi Phi Island and spend a day and night before heading back to Phuket (ferry schedules make it difficult to do just a day trip). Home of much of the scenery for the movie The Beach, Phi Phi is a real tropical wonderland.

The ferry is a great way to tour the bay on a budget.

Ferry Schedule: Phuket-Phi Phi-Krabi and Return

**Departure and arrival times may vary due to weather and sea conditions: Check when you purchase your tickets.
Tickets can be purchased at almost every travel shop and/or street kiosk - prices change and are negotiable and often can be reduced by 10-25%.  Tickets are almost always cheaper when purchased locally. Phuket to Phi Phi prices range from B250-600 and double that for Phuket to Krabi, return tickets are usually slightly discounted from the price of two one-way tickets.
**Departure is from the pier at Koh Sirey and transfer from central hotel areas is usually included - a small surcharge is typically added for transfer from hotels away from the Patong/Karon/Kara areas.
**Return ferry from Phi Phi is "first come, first served" - be at the pier at least ten minutes early during low season and at least 30 minutes early during high season.

#6: Take a Drive: Get out and see the "real" Phuket away from the tourist areas
Coconut, pineapple and rubber plantations, rural villages, and stunning sea and bay views are all on offer.  You will be amazed at what you'll find, a Phuket that even many local residents don't know about.  Soi Bangla is interesting, but it isn't really Phuket.  As long as you are coming to the island, you might as well see what is here.  Check out Phuket's Best Island Drives. Self drive or hire a car and driver for the day.  A couple well-reviewed drivers with cars are here: Phuket People. Read Phuket Car Rent for information about driving on Phuket and how the Car Hire situation works here. This two-meter statue of Ganessha is one of the surprises you will find, but you'll have to go hunting for it yourself.

#7: Phuket FantaSea:
A tourist favorite on the island and often well-reviewed on travel forums, this is a show everyone goes to see at least once. Know that you can eat many fine Thai meals for the price of the buffet, though people speak highly of it too.

#8: Cruise Soi Bangla in Patong
If you are here, you have to see it to believe it.  Even if only once, get down to party central on Soi Bangla in Patong and just wander amongst the crowd. This is adults only fare after dark, but even if the bar and party scene is not your cup of tea, it's still worth checking it out. Located right in the center of Patong, you can't really miss it.  The street is open only to pedestrian traffic after about 6pm and a bit later Phuket's resident "lady boys" come out in all their flamboyance - as do the regular ladies and the tourist hoards looking for a good time.

#9: Simon Cabaret
If you just can't get enough of the flamboyance and lady boys of Soi Bangla, head on over to Simon Cabaret.  Another attraction very popular with the tourist crowed is this transvestite cabaret show with lots of lip-syncing and flouncing about.  Worth doing at least once if you have never been to such a show.

Roma Italian Restaurant#10: Restaurant Crawl
Do you love searching out great places to eat?  If so, Phuket is a true paradise. Literally hundreds of excellent restaurants of every national cuisine and every price range are available on Phuket. Check out the
Favorite Restaurants section, but know that even a list of 100 wouldn't begin to cover all your options.  And, discovering a new place yourself is half the fun. Thai food, Italian, Japanese, you name it, we have it here.

One more!

Laem Singh Beach#11: Don't forget the Beach
The beach is why most people come to Phuket.  But don't let yourself think that Patong, Karon or Kata are the only beaches on the island.  There are many beaches that are much less crowded and even more beautiful. Check out the Best Beaches section on this website site for ideas on different beaches to sample - some great beaches are just off the island and, as yet, still undiscovered.
