Phuket's
"Special Beaches"
Freedom Beach
This beach was rated as one of the
top ten in the world by
World Discoverer
though it is not well-known even on Phuket. The reason? It takes a
long-tail boat ride to get there. If its one of the top ten, then
it must be worth the ride!
To each his own.
You will have
your own favorite after only a short time. But don't get stuck in
a rut, there are so many surprises on the island and it is very
worth the effort to drive the coast line all the way around the
island. In addition to finding new places, you'll also be
delighted by the scenery and new resorts and restaurants that you'll
find.
Each one of the beaches featured in
this section is considered special and you'll notice we've tried to
pick only beaches away from the most heavily visited areas.
Kata, Patong,
Kamala, and Bang Tao seem to be the most populated - though Bang Tao
and Kamala
can be very quiet during low season. If you enjoy getting away from crowded
high season beaches, get out and explore. You'll be glad you did
as there are many great beaches that are never really crowded, even
during high season.
Freedom Beach is
located just south of Patong and is slowly opening up. The
peninsula along the southern portion of Patong Bay is quickly
developing and you may soon even be able to drive to Freedom Beach.
