Hidden
Coves and Beaches
on Phuket:
Laem Singh
Beach between
Kamala and Surin Beaches
Unless you are
driving around Phuket a bit, you'll not be aware of Laem Singh Beach
(Lion Point, or Cape Lion is the literal
translation). Though it is not so "hidden" anymore, the only real
clue is a crowd of cars and motorcycles parked off the side of the
road between Surin and Kamala Beaches.
Through the trees you'll
catch a glimpse of this beautiful beach. Be prepared for a small
hike down the bluff - about five minutes of huffing and puffing -
but it's worth it!
There are usually five or six beach shack restaurants along this
beach, they come and go - more in high season, fewer in low season.
The climb down will help build an appetite.
From the southern tip
of this beach you can see the Kamala head land - and if you clamber
out on the rocks on the northern end - you can even catch a glimpse
of Kamala's beaches.
Great snorkeling around both of the headlands
and recently there is a "clear kayak" business on the beach where
you can rent a completely clear kayak to take around the headlands
so you can see the coral and fish.
The parking by the road is a bit crowded during high season,
and a
small shack there at times collects a fee for parking.
